Investment Committee Member: Ned Weinshenker

Ned M. Weinshenker, Ph.D. is Vice President for Strategic Ventures and Economic Development at Utah State University since July 2006, where he is responsible for the Technology Commercialization Office, the Innovation Campus and the Utah Science, Technology and Research (USTAR) Initiative.
Dr. Weinshenker has over 38 years of business, education and scientific expertise. Before joining Utah State University he was the Director of the Life Sciences Cluster in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. He served in upper management positions at several Silicon Valley biotechnology and venture capital firms, and was President, CEO and Director for Salt Lake City-based IOMED, where he was responsible for the creation of new products, partnerships, and overseeing a successful IPO in 1998. Weinshenker was the President of Churchill Oaks Consulting in Salt Lake City, where he provided management and technical consulting to a range of clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and diagnostics, as well as venture capital funds in those areas. He served as President and CEO of two University of Utah spin-outs, MantiCore Pharmaceuticals and Pharmadigm. Previous positions were at ALZA Corporation, Liposome Technology and MBW Management.
Dr. Weinshenker worked as an Assistant Professor in the University of Maryland’s Department of Chemistry, and has been an Invited Lecturer and Visiting Scholar at Stanford University. He also was a member of Westminster College’s School of Business Technology and Entrepreneur Advisory Board, the Advisory Council for Utah Centers of Excellence Program, and the University of Utah’s College of Science Advisory Committee.
Dr. Weinshenker currently serves on the Board of The Leonardo in Salt Lake City, JSK Therapeutics and Exigent Pharmaceuticals in North Carolina. He also recently served on the Board of Scientific Advisors for Palo Alto-based ALEXZA, and the Board of Altea Therapeutics Inc. in Atlanta. Recently, Dr. Weinshenker began an additional career in Digital Imaging.
Dr. Weinshenker received a B.Sc. at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University under Nobel Laureate E.J. Corey.
